Five Acupuncture Points for Indian Summer

Fun Fact: TCM actually acknowledges 5 seasons- not 4!  What we refer to as an “Indian Summer” is actually season from the perspective of Chinese Medicine.  There are also organs and acupuncture points that are specifically related to this special time of year.

At the crux of health is digestion.  The spleen and stomach are responsible for this.  A build up of dampness can occur as was discussed in the last blog post on weight gain and weight loss and acupuncture in San Diego.

Acupuncture, herbal formulas and nutritional counseling are important parts of keeping the spleen and stomach functioning to the best of their natural ability. The following are points that help greatly with digestion and fluid transport.

Spleen 9 – Located on the inside of the lower leg below the knee, SP 9 is a great point for diarrhea, weight loss, edama/selling and abdominal bloating and pain.

Stomach 25 – Located on either side of the belly button about 2 finger widths away, I use this point a lot in my San Diego acupuncture for pain practice for stomach pain, bloating, IBS, Chrons and constipation.

Ren 6 – 1.5 thumb widths directly below the navel. I use this for pain, diarrhea, Chrons, constipation, IBS, menstrual problems, women health in my acupuncture in San Diego pain office.

Ren 12 – 4 thumbs above the belly button. Bloating, pain, IBS, Chrons, acid reflux, vomiting, constipation, pain.

Spleen 6 – 3 finger widths above the ankle on the inside of the leg. I use this all the time in my San Diego acupuncture office in Banker’s Hill, North Park, Mission Hills, Hillcrest, University Heights, Little Italy, Down town, Balboa Park. Abdominal pain and bloating, diarrhea, menstrual problems, women’s health, edema/swelling, hangover cure, vertigo, anti aging, pain, insomnia.

These are best used with acupuncture in my San Diego office but can also be stimulated manually as in acupressure. Come see me at one of my San Diego Acupuncture offices!
